I woke up this morning and pulled out my weekly calender to see what was scheduled. As I looked at my week I could already feel the tightness growing in my shoulders, the knot in my stomach. My calender was too full and I desperately needed to schedule several more things. Can you relate?
For so many of us our lives feel like one to-do list after another leaving us little time for rest and peace. Is living in a constant state of overwhelm and stress the way we want to live? I don’t think so!
So what can we do? Here’s what I did this morning and I invite you to try it out and see if it works for you. First of all I chose to remember that we are human beings not human doings. And with that in mind I turned my to-do list into a to-be list. I asked myself the questions…”Who do I want to be today?” The first answer that came to my mind is that I want to be totally present for each person I interact with today. As I listen to my clients and connect with friends and family I want to be there in mind, body and spirit. That is really what life is about…beautiful connections.
After putting that on the top of my to-be list then I was able to prioritize my day in a way that worked best for me. So my friends, what is at the top of your to-be list today? Perhaps yours is to-be creative, to-be decisive, to-be loving, to-be peaceful. Anything you chose is fine as long as it allows you to breathe deeply and enjoy your day.
