Tis the time of year when we spend a chunk of our valuable life flogging ourselves for what we didn’t accomplish last year.  Then after we tire of the “much-deserved” punishment we scrape up what little self esteem we have left, sit down (and at least some of us) write our goals for the next year.  With gritted teeth and renewed will power we promise we will work daily towards our goals. “This year will be different.” We gasp.  All in all the whole process is way more fun then one should have!  Ha!

So how about trying something different?  I challenge you to start the new year with a more joyful focus.  Find a comfy chair, your favorite hot drink, turn on some music and grab a journal, notebook or your computer.  Spend time answering these questions…

What did I love about 2012?

What am I most proud of?

What did I accomplish?

What did I do that took me outside my comfort zone?

Devote at least as much time on this process as you did beating yourself up for your “failures.”  You see, what you focus on, you get more of in your life.  It’s just the way your brain works.  Your Reticular Activating System scans the world to look for anything you have told it to focus on.  So focus on success, on what you love, on your accomplishments.  I guarantee doing this will create success much faster then a set jaw and willpower.  Plus it’s a much better way to have a fabulous 2013!

Have an amazing Monday!
